Do you know why? – Piyangie Jay Ediriwickrema

Do you know why?

The soft warmth of the Sun

And it’s yellowy laugh

The gentle dance

Of the upturned flowers

Bring me joy?

Do you know why?

The soft murmur of the sea,

Its salty breeze,

The cool morning air,

And the beautiful bird songs

Make me want to dance?

Do you know why?

The world looks wonderful

Like it’s born anew?

Everything around me

Has a brighter hue,

Gladening my heart?

Do you know why?

I no longer fear

My flaws and imperfections?

Why I no longer doubt

My capabilities,

And believe in me?

Do you know why, my love?

Do you wonder?

Then, here me out

And do not doubt

For all this comes

Straight from my heart.

It’ you, and because of you

Your faith and belief,

Your love and care,

Your respect and admiration,

The space you give

To grow and rise.

That’s the reason

I glow and shine

Banishing my demons

With a brighter smile

Dance in sunshine and rain

Like one new born.

And do you know why, my love?

Why I treasure your love

And return with a sincere heart,

With affection and tenderness,

And with a force never thought

Existed deep within?

Because, pure and true hearts

Are hard to come by

And beautiful souls like you

Are God’s rare jewels

That shines and brightens

The dismal world that we live in.
